Alisha Rait
Overview
Alisha is a Solicitor specialising in Family Law, with over 10 years of experience advising clients on divorce, financial matters arising from relationship breakdown, and children disputes. She joined the team at Staffordshire Family Law in January 2026, having previously headed up the family department at a firm in Birmingham. Prior to this, she was based at a specialist Family Law firm in Wolverhampton for 8 years.
Alisha prides herself in providing support to people at some of the most emotionally challenging times in their lives. Clients benefit from Alisha’s breadth of experience across all areas of Family Law, which allows her to provide expert advice, which she does in a clear and empathetic way. She provides strategic advice at every stage of a case, to achieve the best possible outcome for her clients.

Divorce
Guiding clients through the Divorce process, Alisha deals with cases under the current no fault-based procedure. She has dealt with more complex divorce cases, including the defence of a fraudulent divorce application.
Financial matters
Alisha has considerable experience in dealing with the financial claims arising on divorce including:
- Maintenance Pending Suit (Interim maintenance),
- Cases concerning Intervenors;
- Material lack of financial disclosure;
- Business assets;
- Pension sharing;
- Expert instruction including forensic accountants;
- Section 37 MCA 1973 (setting aside disposition of assets and prohibiting disposition of assets)
- Obtaining successful Costs Orders;
- Negotiating and finalising settlements outside of the court arena.
In addition, Alisha can advise on financial issues that arise from the breakdown of a cohabiting couple’s relationship and the claims that might arise.
Children disputes
Having previously dealt with public law Children Act proceedings, where the Local Authority are involved, Alisha has more recently focused on private law children proceedings, involving disputes between parents and other family law members. Her public law background gives her useful insight and experience when dealing with complex private children disputes. She has dealt with cases involving serious allegations, safeguarding concerns, or complex questions around parental responsibility. She has experience of dealing with:
- Child Arrangement Orders;
- Specific Issue;
- Prohibited Steps;
- Special Guardianship;
- Legal Parenthood;

Recognition
Alisha completed her Law Degree with First Class honours in 2011. She then completed her Diploma in Legal Practice in 2012 achieving a Distinction.
She is an Accredited Member of the Law Society’s Children Law Scheme and a Resolution Accredited Specialist in Public Law & Private Law Children
